American CMT (Country Music Television) has called "Red Headed Stranger" "The Sgt. Peppers Of Country Music". The album gave Nelson a lasting nickname and is also considered the crown jewel of his extraordinary discography. The album's recklessness helped it become an otherworldly, timeless classic.
The outlaw country album Red Headed Strangers was the perfect antidote to the glitzy Nashville sound that dominated radio stations in the mid-70s. If Nelson had only recorded this one album, he would still deserve to be in the Country Music Hall of Fame.
